We are such stuff
As dreams are made on
And our little life
Is rounded with a sleep...

It is not prudent to enclose it in a classification the inventive power that feeds the creativity which makes man a creature capable of dreaming; thus appears a work that constrains it with a label that can coherently comprehend all the various facets of the imagination and fantasy, because of his own knowledge of fantasy that demonstrates intolerance to the limits.

We are not supposed to know how the artists strain incessantly to cross them to arrive at new ‘fantastic’ visions. For a description of the spaces in which they drive, they can certainly recall the definitions of fractions, movements, the type, that over the centuries are remade in a general fantastic concept: from symbolism to oneirism, from surrealism to the metaphysical, from magic realism to the visionary, from wonderful to that of fables. Without talking about their influence in the mass media, video games, digital images, cinema, illustrations, comic strips where daily things are combined such as fantasy, horror, supernatural, science-fiction, creating a crossover, narrative plots and visuals in which are presented an imagination in continuous expansion that is shaped like a support column of the activity of entertainment and related to culture of the last decade.

In the actual panorama, the anxiety of experimentation and newness seems to favour installations, video art, performances and practical objects, not devoid of value, even though sometimes foolish. The activity of painting and the practice of sculpture however remain a strong centre from which to radiate, the learned part of artistic experience and the figurative is the linguistic cornerstone of fantasy in art that cannot prescind the representation of a recognizable universe on which is grafted the deformation and the amplification, and the strangeness of fantasy.

The five artists who are represented incite and stimulate the imagination, obligated by the desire to look beyond reality, but also to have the negligible merit to hold firm the exercise of art, through the skill of painting and sculpture, inherited from the purest Italian classical tradition.

The layers of the myth we can assign to Claudio Nicoli and his sculpture that is energically relived between the Minoan legend and the Etruscan magic. Derived from mythology also Edi Brancolini, to those classical figures and his theatrical predisposition to sharp theatrical compositions between allegory and enigma. A remote civilization, Mediterranean myths are for Vincenzo Cacace lost lands where symbolic episodes are set recalling the world of the archetypes. The universe of Raffaele De Rosa stretches out an epic recalling medieval fantasy, home of the knights and jousts, among colossal architecture. The ineffable mystery wound up in the delicate painting of Giampaolo Dulbecco, suspended between metaphysical and oneirism, evocates a magical atmosphere of lost sensations.
